About Jeff Barrett
Jeff Barrett is a self taught artist born in Muncie, IN and currently residing in Dallas. Since a young age Jeff has been involved in ceramics, watercolor, and pencil and charcoal drawing. After earning a degree in Spanish from Ball State University in 2000, he joined the U.S. Army where he studied the Korean language and worked as a cryptologic linguist and signals intelligence analyst in Asia and stateside.
Upon completion of his military career, Jeff lived in Augusta, GA where he began abstract painting and showing his works in local galleries and businesses.
Jeff utilizes a palette of bright contrasting colors with dynamic brush strokes and figurative gestures to create a style fusing abstract expressionism with surrealism. For the artist, the creation process is an organic one as shapes, lines, and colors emerge, allowing the painting to reveal itself.
Jeff's influences include such artists as Joan MirĂ³, Paul Klee, Hans Hoffman, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still.
